How to Transfer Files From One Computer to Another Over LAN
You’ll need to enable the sharing of your hard drive. In Mac OS X, just go to System Preferences - Sharing, and the rest is easy to follow. In Windows, the process is quite easy as well. Browse to My Computer - (right-click) Properties on your hard drive. In the Sharing tab, you’ll need to enable file sharing for the folder. Below is a screenshot on a Windows 7 PC.
If your disk isn’t Shared, go to the Network and Sharing Screen and open the ‘Advanced Sharing’ settings. Here you’ll be able to turn on File and Printer Sharing. On your new system, you should be able to find the drive shared in ‘Network’. When opening the hard drive, you’ll probably be asked for a password. From there on, you’re free to go. Copy the files and folders as if the network drive is just another folder.
Or the easiest way is to use shared folders. Right click on the folder you want to share, go to properties and the sharing tab. Tick the share this folder on the network checkbox and give it a name, say MyFileShare. Get your ip address of your computer, probably 192.168.11.18 or something like that. From your second computer, go to start, run and type in \\192.168.11.18\MyFileShare You should be sharing in no time.
